I was born and raised in Senegal, West Africa. I am an Assistant Professor of History and Cultural Studies here at Chatham University and I also direct the Global Focus program. I am actively involved in some movements dedicated to African unity and the promotion of Afro-Asian cooperation in the twenty-first century. I am a Research Associate at the World History Center, University of Pittsburgh. In the spring of 2012, I was the Academic Director for the Keystone Study Away Consortium in The Gambia (West Africa) and 6 Chatham students lived with me in the country for 5 months. In May 2013, I enjoyed leading the Field Experience to South Africa with 8 Chatham students, a wonderful opportunity that we plan on repeating with interested students during Maymester 2014. I’ve been happily married to a compatriot, also an educator, for over 20 years and we are raising 2 girls in Pittsburgh.
